Artista visual y muralista chileno, Nelson Rivas “El Cekis”, nacido en Santiago en 1976, comienza su carrera en la misma ciudad transformándose en un muralista desde la secundaria, donde se inspira en el movimiento graffitero neoyorkino y el muralismo de propaganda anti-dictadura de los años ochenta. En el año 2004, Nelson Rivas “El Cekis”, emigra a New York, USA, donde desarrolla sus sentidos comprendiendo el ambiente artístico de esa mega metrópolis mundial y llega a su adultez artística en la meca mundial del “streetart”. Actualmente, este gran artista chileno tiene su taller y galería en New York.
Cekis (Nelson Rivas) career as a visual artist began within the streets of his native Santiago, Chile. He started painting murals in 1992 while still attending in high school. He was deeply Inspired by New York graffiti culture, and Chilean political mural propaganda from the 70’s and 80’s. In the mid/late 90’s his artwork was at the helm of a new generation of artists from the streets of South America.His murals transcended communities, and helped to create a new popular appeal for street culture in Chile. Today he is recognized as one of the pioneers of the hip hop graffiti movement in Latin America.Selected Group and Solo Exhibitions.
